iPod Touch 2.0 JailBreak Tutorial (Vista/XP)

As the title states, this article aims to provide instruction for jailbreaking your iPod Touch to version 2.0. Do note that, as of the time this article is written, the 2.0 firmware is sluggish and buggy (especially the battery life) and in my opinion if you are an end user, you should stay on 1.1.4.

Requirements:

  • iTunes >= 7.7
  • iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw:
  • OR
  • http://uploaded.to/file/ih0z65/iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw
  • WinPwn (2.0.0.3 as of the time this article is written)
  • And of course, an iPod Touch 1.1.3/1.1.4

Now lets begin,

  1. Backup the important data from your iTouch. You may skip this step if you want because usually iTunes creates backup of your iTouch.
  2. Run WinPwn.
  3. Click “Browse .ipsw” and select the firmware file you downloaded from the above link. Wait for the file to be loaded.
  4. Click “IPSW Builder“.
  5. Tick “Install Cydia” if you want to use it on your iTouch. (It’s an Installer like application. But right now, there’s not much applications available to download.)
  6. For me, it’s necessary to tick “YouTube Activation Fix” or else I can’t use the YouTube software on my iTouch. So, you might want to tick it also.
  7. Check the other tabs for other configurations. Though, they are mostly not for newbies. (:
  8. Click “Build .ipsw” when done. Select a place in your hard disk to write the file. Make sure you have write access to it. (I have trouble saving the file to an admin-access-required folder. Saving it to Documents should be fine.)
  9. Wait for the software to build the ipsw.
  10. You can connect your iTouch now.
  11. Wait a few secs, then click on “iPwner“. Select the custom firmware file you just build a moment ago.
  12. Winpwn should report a “iTunes PWNED!” message. Now, here is the important part. Run iTunes. Then, put your iTouch in DFU mode. DFU mode should not be confused with recovery mode. If your iTouch is not in DFU mode when you recover, you will BRICK your iTouch.
  13. To go in DFU mode, follow this tutorial.
  14. It’s easy to know if your iTouch is in DFU or not. If it is, your iTunes should find the iTouch connected in recovery mode BUT your iTouch screen should be BLANK.
  15. If you do not achieve this, STOP. If you continue, you’ll have many kinds of weird errors. If everything is okay, continue.
  16. On iTunes, click Shift while clicking the “Restore” button. The file dialog should open. Select the custom firmware file you created a moment ago.
  17. iTunes should now start the process. Wait and have lots of patience. It will take a while. Took about 20+ mins for me.
  18. After that, your iTouch should restart and you should have a JailBreaked iTouch 2.0 with Cydia. (Then, your iTunes will recover your iTouch with the last backup it has). Congratulations! (:
